Skincare: The Basics

Hey dolls,

This week I’m going to be trying to demystify all things skincare after a chat with my lovely friend Beth. Quick disclaimer, I’m not a dermatologist, I’m just sharing what works for me and what I’ve learnt.

So this post is going to be going back to basics from a morning routine to evening routine.

Let’s start with the morning! You might not think it but cleansing your face in the morning is just as important as the evening, but I want something quick so tend to opt for cleansing pads. The Nip ‘n’ Fab ones are my favourites, just sweep all over your face and you are good to go!

Then onto moisturising my face, if you take away one thing from this post let it be this- SPF! Now we’re in spring/summer it’s super important to use a facial SPF every day. Not only does SPF protect your skin from UVA/UVB rays but it also helps to prevent wrinkles and ageing. I’ve been loving the Dermalogica SPF daily moisturiser. It’s super lightweight and sits nicely under makeup. I also use an eye cream to hydrate and brighten my under eyes every morning.

My evening routine is slightly longer but doesn’t take more than 10 minutes!

Step 1: Cleansing/Make-up remover

First of all, ditch the makeup wipes! They are full of drying ingredients, of course fine for a one off but avoid using them everyday.

I love cleansing/removing my makeup with balms or cream cleansers. They remove all the everything from the day and leave your skin feeling fresh. Double cleansing is a great way to make sure your skin is completely clean, you can use the same cleanser twice or a makeup remover followed by a cleanser. La Roche Posay and Liz Earle are my favourite cleanser brands.

Step 2: Toner

This is a step a lot of people will skip, but it’s possibly my favourite part. Using a toner helps to ensure your skin is clean, remove impurities, close pores and restore PH balance. I love the La Roche Posay soothing lotion and Pixi tonics.

Step 3: Serum/Oil (optional)

Serums and oils offer an extra punch to your skincare routine, they way they are made means the ingredients can better penetrate your skin. These are great for anti-ageing, hydration and whole other host of skincare benefits. There are serums that help with pretty much every skincare concern, so my advice here would be do your research!

Step 4: Moisturiser

Moisturising you skin is vital to rehydrate, repair and prevent ageing. Once again there are a range of moisturisers out there for oily, combination and dry skin. My favourite brands are Lancome, La Roche Posay, Clarins and Elizabeth Arden.

Step 5: Eye Cream and lip balm

Keeping your undereyes hydrated is so important as it is a super delicate area and prone to wrinkles. Again there are all sorts of eye creams available, I tend to opt for a brighting cream as I have dark undereyes. My favourite brands are Estee Lauder, Origins and Kielhs. Keeping your lips hydrated is also key, so grab your fave lip balm and pop a good layer on before bed!

Right so that’s every night sorted, now onto your 2 or 3 times a week bits of skincare!

Exfoliating

Exfoliating your skin removes dead skin cells, removes impurities and boosts circulation and a tonne of other benefits. Doing this a couple of times a week will keep your skin looking fresh, be warned if you don’t usually exfoliate you may break out as your face gets rid of the bad stuff. My go to brand for exfoliator is Nip ‘n’ Fab, they are affordable and do the job!

Face masks

This is your pamper time! There are tonnes of face masks out there, all offering different benefits. I try to use a clarifying/detoxing mask once a week and then a hydrating mask once a week. I love the Glam Glow masks (supermud doubles as a great spot treatment!), L’Oreal and Origins masks. Whether you pick up a sheet mask or a pot, choose products that help with your skincare concerns.

Wow, that was a lot to cover! I hope this helps you out, the importance of skincare has been drummed into me since I was young (thanks Mum!) and as she says you only have one face so need to look after it!

Updated Skincare Routine!

Hey dolls,

This week I wanted to share my updated skincare routine. I’ve always been a bit of a skincare addict, I blame Mum for that, so here is my updated day and night skincare!

Mornings are always a bit manic so I want something quick and easy to start the day. I grab some cleansing pads either the Nip n Fab Dragon Blood ones or the Vitamin E ones from Superdrug that I am currently using. These leave my skin feeling fresh with no hassle! Then to moisturise I use the Nip n Fab Post Glycolic Fix moisturiser and Vitamin E  eye cream. I love these products because they sit so nicely underneath my makeup and don’t make my skin feel greasy!

My evening routine firstly removing my makeup, recently I have been loving the Garner Micellar water cleansing gel. I use this in the shower and it removes most of my makeup, I then cleanse with my trusty Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser. To tone its once again an old fave, Liz Earle Instant Boost Tonic.

I love using an oil on my skin overnight, some of these oils can be super expensive so I’m pleased I’ve found one I love from Caudalie, VineActiv Overnight Detox, these leaves my skin feeling so soft and hydrated, it has definitely become a ride or die for me!

One thing I can’t live without is a good eye cream and at the moment I’m loving the Origins Ginzing eye cream, this cream is definitely worth the hype and although I’m petty late to the party, I can highly recommend this one for brighting and reducing darkness under your eyes!

Once a week or twice a week I exfoliate my face using the Nip n Fab Glycolic scrub which I love and will use a face mask.  I have a range of face masks I love including L’oreal detox clay, any from GlamGlow and the Sephora sheet masks (you need to get your hands on some if you haven’t tried them yet!).

  2. Playsuits- save space on packing and makes getting dressed super easy
  3. A black or white bikini- perfect to throw under any coverup
  4. Flat sandals- a pair that you can wear for days out and for dinner in the evening
  5. A pair of wedges or heeled sandals- for those nights you want to look extra glam!
  6. A big beach bag- perfect for holiday all of your pool/beach essentials (highly recommend my girl FAB Designs for bespoke beach bags)
  7. Clutch bag- one that matches every outfit you take!
  8. Hoops- hoop earrings can glam any outfit up!!

On to skincare and beauty products!

  1. Suncream & aftersun- these are a must to protect your skin, use a higher SPF on your face for extra protection
  2. The Fox tan spray and lotion- can’t recommend these enough for deepening your tan
  3. A hydrating face mist- always good to have to cool you down!
  4. Aloe vera gel- this is perfect for almost everything (including sun burn)

Summer Skincare

Hey Dolls,

I’ve hit the milestone of 50 blog posts!

Today I am going to share with you my summer skincare routine and all the products I have been loving using on my skin!

A good skincare routine is so important and I always make sure I remove my makeup properly, whilst avoiding makeup wipes as much as possible!

IMG_0233

Let’s start with the morning- this will always be something quick as I am never awake enough for anything too intense! I remove any excess oils from my skin with the Nip n Fab cleansing pads, I change which ones I use each time I run out! Then I grab my Liz Earle instant tonic boost, pop on some moisturiser and my eye cream and I’m good to go!

My evening skin routine depends if I’ve been wearing makeup or not. If not I go straight in with my Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser, if I have been wearing makeup I start by removing it with micellar water and cotton pads. After cleansing I’ll either use my Liz Earle tonic or Caudalie beauty elixir. Even though it’s summer and my skin is oilier I still love using face oil, my fave at the moment is Caudalie overnight detox oil which leaves my skin feeling plump and hydrated. To finish off I use my holy grail eye cream- Lancome genifique yeux light pearl, not only is the metal applicator super cooling but it is fantastic for brighting dark eyes!

IMG_0234

Finally I’ll add a couple of products I love that I use in the summer!

  1. Superdrug Vitamin E hydrating mist- great for refreshing your skin
  2. Nip n Fab Glycolic Scrub- I use this a few times each week to exfoliate my skin
  3. Glam Glow Supermud & L’oreal Detox clay mask- I love using these once a week
  4. Garnier Moisture Bomb Sheet mask & Origins Drink up- I also use these hydrating masks once a week, to give my skin a boost!
  5. Dior Glow lip balm- hint of colour with SPF, the perfect summer lip product!

My Holiday Washbag!

Hey Dolls,

This week I thought I’d tell you what I take in my holiday wash bag to help you guys out if you have a holiday coming up!

washbag

Right lets start with with facial skincare:face

I took minis of all my usual Liz Earle skin care which was great as it saved space and made packing what I needed super easy. I also took a mini Micellar water to remove my makeup and clean my face at the end of each day to freshen up as I find makeup wipes dry out my skin. To keep my lips from cracking in the heat I took my lush lip scrub in mint julips which I use all the time and love it! My eyes also get dry after flying so I always take an eye spray.

hair

Next onto hair! As well as what is pictured above I took a bottle of Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner. Back to what actually was still in the wash bag! Everyone knows if you have long hair the sun and heat makes it so dry! To solve this one I took one of my fave brands Mark Hills Miracoilous Moroccan Argan Oil, smells amazing and works a treat.

Next up is Charles Worthington Sunshine Protector Salt Spray, this was great for leaving my hair to dry naturally into beachy waves and it also has some protection for your hair against sun damage.

Two Tresemme products were in my case, the mini heat protection spray which I used when I wanted to curl my hair. The second was the mini hairspray, I have always loved this hairspray as it gives great hold and brushes out easily without leaving your hair feeling sticky.

Finally for hair was my new favourite Dry Bar Detox Dry Shampoo, love this product! Well worth the hype and is fab for the in between hair wash freshen up!

random washbag

The final few bits in my washbag are a bit random! Toothpaste obviously an essential, some Voltarol because its always good to have a Venus Snap razor perfect for travelling as it keeps it clean and stops the moisture bars getting stuck to everything else in your bag! The final thing is the Sonic electric toothbrush which is so good and perfect for travelling!

Hope this helps you when packing!
